Cairo panorama カイロのパノラマ (Egypt)

Posted by timothy sullivan (Tokyo, Japan) on 30 April 2009 in Cityscape & Urban.

Exiting from the top of one of Old Cairo's multitude of minarets, I gaze out upon the city and at the giant Citadel in the distance, close my eyes, and feel the lukewarm breath of history and culture wash over me. And for a few rare moments, I believe I succeeded in turning off my brain and just enjoyed the rapture of existence--something I so often take for granted.

Hiromi's nervous squeal awakens me from my trance: she has emerged from the staircase behind me and sees the same scene as I. She loathes heights, and while the low wall around the tower's top afford some sense of safety, there's no mistake--we are quite high off the ground.
