Yunohama Onsen 湯の浜露天温泉 (niijima)

After a long day of swimming, hiking, and exploring, few things quench the body more than a cold draft of Asahi beer or a nice soak in a hot spring. And fortunately, on Niijima, you can do both. Yunohana onsen, located a short walk away from the ferry port, sports a series of pleasantly warm pools set into the ocean-side rock. Behind these rises a tower made of stone. Climbing the short stepway to the top of this feature brings you to the top and center of perhaps the most magnificent scenery I have experienced at any onsen in Japan thus far: The sea- -colored azure, cerulean, and teal toward shore, before gradating out to Persian- -is the Photoshopped version of the quintessential tropical paradise, complete with distant isle peaks capped with clouds and the most amazing sunset. The soothing blankets of the onsen’s waters and the lulling sound of ocean waves provided for unrivaled relaxation.
