Yes, the taiko drum champion game really does exist! Quite a few people I'd talked with in the States reckoned that this game was some sort of myth invented and perpetuated by Hollywood. While, basically, all the game entails is hitting the drum at a specific time akin to Guitar Hero, it's rather quite addictive.

If you're ever visiting Japan, I totally recommend giving it a go--especially at Sega Joypolis in Odaiba, where it's just one of the cheap side-games.
