sheepface 羊の顔 (Chiba)Posted by timothy sullivan (Tokyo, Japan) on 29 May 2009 in Animal & Insect. Despite their agrarian heritage, the decided majority of modern Japanese probably have never seen a cow, or ridden a horse--or have a memory of the acrid ammonia aroma of animal urine. Located about two hours from the heart of Tokyo (or a bit closer if you're living in Yokohama), Mother Farm is rather accurate to its namesake: it's the mother of all farms in Japan (at least in terms of size!). Though I grew up in farm country, I nevertheless decided to venture out there and have a look--after all, I'd heard enough about it from past students (who turn out to be rather good salespersons for places to visit). Mother Farm has something for all ages: for the kids, a functional farm that's part petting zoo, fields of berries ready to pick, and all sorts of activities; for adults, an amazing landscape replete with (tens of) thousands of flowers--and places perfect for enjoying the fresh blueberry wine and other tasty creations.
