Sheikh Zayed Al Nahyan Grand Mosque (Abu Dhabi)Posted by timothy sullivan (Tokyo, Japan) on 6 May 2009 in Art & Design. Patterns in the mosque's stained glass windows called to mind those of European cathedrals--and in my mind I began comparing the interiors of the two architectural styles. While, granted, most of the mosques I had visited during my stay in the Middle East were relatively new (though some of the ones I had experienced in Egypt were fairly aged), one of the key differences was that they held light quite well; buildings such as Notre Dame seemed almost to shut light out. - - - - -
