Grand Mosque Minarete (Abu Dhabi)Posted by timothy sullivan (Tokyo, Japan) on 4 May 2009 in Architecture. ...but eventually we found an open entrance! Much to my relief. One of the Mosque minarets held for a few moments my imagination captive, and I thought of this mighty symbol of Islam--a religion that I had been relatively unfamiliar with, but one which inspired a great deal of curiosity. I considered how, immediately before the daily prayer intervals, a rising chorus of "Allahu Akbar!" emanated from mosques in every direction, enveloping all in a mighty call to prayer; the subtleness of this compelling force to pray is amazing, and I felt myself oft feeling that, as with other holy places I have visited, yes, this is indeed sacred land. - - - - -
