silly camel 欠伸するラクダ (cairo)Posted by timothy sullivan (Tokyo, Japan) on 16 April 2009 in Animal & Insect. Though I had ridden camels at least twice before (both when I was rather much younger, and both--if I recall correctly--were either at Catskill Game Farm or there and at some other place), I recall that I climbed up some stairs to a platform, and from there was directed to sit upon the camel's back. Now the camels in Egypt, however, would kneel down before you--and each time that they did, they'd start making a mighty gurgling sound from deep within them (something akin to a hungry tauntaun crossed with a disgruntled water heater) that each time we dismounted, I half felt like laughing at the poor guy--and half felt guilty for his obvious inconvenience. Hiromi's camel was a bit comical as well. When walking, there was hardly any problem, though whenever we worked up to a trot, his derrière turned into quite the metronome (and, being downwind, I was invited to quite the intriguing bouquet).
