"spring's" first sakura 初桜 (ueno, japan)

Posted by timothy sullivan (Tokyo, Japan) on 23 February 2009 in Plant & Nature.

The early-blooming blossoms of Kanzakura (寒桜), or Taiwan cherry, are an awaited portent of spring. This past weekend I had the chance to wander around Ueno Park in Tokyo, smelling the blossoms' light scents wafting in the cool breeze while taking a few photos of them. This particular photo was taken at the quiet Hanazono Inari Jinja shrine (花園稲荷神社), located on the edge of Ueno Park.
