Kenroku-en teahouse 兼六園の茶屋 (kanazawa, japan)Posted by timothy sullivan (Tokyo, Japan) on 13 February 2009 in Landscape & Rural. The next day, after having enjoyed Shirakawago's night view, we went to Kenroku-en garden in Kanazawa--one of Japan's Three Famous Gardens. Strolling about the grounds, I found the place to have quite a serene feel to it: the way the grounds are sculpted make one naturally feel calm and at-ease--which is probably attributable to the presence of a delicate harmony of the six elements necessary for a "perfect" landscape (spaciousness, seclusion, artifice, antiquity, waterways, and panoramas). (Indeed, the garden's namesake literally means "Six Attributes Garden".) Actually, Japan has quite a list of "top threes". While some of these places are indisputably beautiful, the nation's tourism bureau has only recently realized that its notion of what's beautiful differs (sometimes quite radically) from what foreign tourists consider as beautiful. Been to Japan? What sights/places/experiences did you consider as being beautiful? - - - - - Yokoso! Japan Weeks 2009 (List of things to do/see in Japan by region) >> Google Maps >>
