gasshozukuri 夜光景 (shirakawago, japan)

[continued from previous day]
Naturally, I started worrying. The cloudlike mist that had been swishing about in the air had turned to light drizzle, and as I walked further and further up this road, the more distinct the feeling within me became that I had erred. After cursing aloud at the road signs, I made the decision to go ahead for two more minutes and see whether there was a shortcut. After all, I could see the lights from the overlook--but the road I was on simply seemed to meander its way up the hillside. Surely there was a cutoff or shortcut somewhere.
But after two minutes and still no shortcut in sight, I did one of the most difficult things for men to do: admit I was wrong, and go back the way I came.
So I ran down the mountain. Two tour buses passed me on the descent, and it was difficult for me not to wonder just how much further I had to go. Still, whilst muttering between breaths, I reckoned that I could have walked up that road forever--and as the tour was staying in Shirakawago only for a total of 2 hours, I didn't want to miss my opportunity.
So I dashed down the street, asked for directions from a cop, and dashed up the other side of the hill. Sweat-soaked and panting slightly, I finally (and gladly) arrived at the overlook from which I took this shot.
