Clouds over Albany アルバニーの上の雲 (Thatcher Park, NY)

Thatcher State Park was one of my favorite places to visit when I was younger. Even as I grew older I found myself eager to enjoy the slightly cooler air, hiking along some of the numerous trails crisscrossing the area, and strolling along the cliff walk--with an eye to relaxing near one of the waterfalls nearby.
I took this photo around three years ago during one of my trips back to NY to visit my family. As my eyes gazed outward at the cloud-filled horizon (and the Empire State Plaza, middle right), I found my mind's eye viewing the same scene through an 8-year old me--a me who was looking at the eagles surfing the air currents above and wishing I had wings; a me who would next go to the riverbed nearby and search for fossils. (This was around the time of my ebullient fascination with geology--one of several subjects enticing my brain to ask questions about the world; fortunately I had extremely patient and courageous parents who nurtured my interests.)
As I blinked my eyes, that memory switched to something new: of clouds, and of Japan. The swiftly moving clouds here around Tokyo seem so vanilla and underwhelming compared with those of Nagano, for instance; but even those seem pallid in comparison to these gentle giants of lazy cotton.

@Rags: I thought so as well--nothing like a good cumulus to make you smile. :-)
