kimono girls '09 成人の日 (asakusa, japan)

Posted by timothy sullivan (Tokyo, Japan) on 13 January 2009 in Lifestyle & Culture.

A trio of friends dressed in kimono (and standing in front of sake casks) for "Seijin-no-Hi" (Coming of Age Day) in Asakusa.

Every year there's a coming of age ceremony at Asakusa's municipal auditorium (区立浅草公会堂), where people who just turned age 20--and are now considered legal adults--gather to attend a ceremony (after which, as one might imagine, there is much revelry).
