But what if you are single, or want to spend Christmas with your family? Other Japanese Christmas "traditions" include having special KFC (that's right--Kentucky Fried Chicken) Christmas Party Packs. People will wait in line at a KFC for quite a while--sometimes for up to an hour--just to get some delicious fried chicken. While not nearly as popular, Pizza Hut and Dominos also sell special holiday combo gourmet pizzas.

As we all know, this side of 2008 has seen some pretty disturbing economic effects--effects that are finally trickling down to the common person. Yesterday on the news, for instance, I saw a story about how poinsettia sales (yes, the Japanese have also adopted the Christmas flower) were down quite much this year. Interviews with a few florists indicated that not only were poinsettia sales down, but so were sales of practically all other flowers. Sales of certain kinds of Christmas cakes were down this year as well.
