autumn eve and bridge 秋の夜と橋 (tokyo, japan)

Confession: I had basically butchered my attempt to capture this image by my lack of foresight: I had come to Rikugien park without a tripod. Why? A fair majority of the more beautiful Japanese gardens (and temples) prohibit the use of tripods. (And, true to the lawyer side of my heart, while I had successfully argued the use of a monopod a handful of times, I have noticed a growing number of signs saying "no camera support equipment"--or at least "no monopods". I'd have a bit of a laugh if they start adding "no bipods" to their list--perhaps you'll see the sign posted up here, if/when they do.)
However, at Rikugien, the use of tripods is only forbidden in two areas. Not knowing this, I had to get a bit creative in how/where I braced my camera. For this shot it was perilously poised--and for various reasons I couldn't end up bracketing.
Still, definitely worth a visit if you're taking night shots around Tokyo.
