moss and momiji 苔と紅葉 (nikko, japan)

Posted by timothy sullivan (Tokyo, Japan) on 8 December 2008 in Plant & Nature.

walking around the quiet outer grounds of Nikko's Toshogu shrine, i saw something that would only appear after a nice rain: vivid, lush moss. when i had been to the temple in the past, the moss was a bit dry and just looked a little sad; but on this day, as it blanketed everything--trees, rock walls--with its plush green velvet, it seemed so much more eyecatching and vivid.
