Alit with autumn, the hillsides and ranges of Mt. Zao in Yamagata/Miyagi Prefectures bestow a certain serenity. Crimson and gold meeting deep blue skies filled with cottony clouds entranced me, quietening my heart and mind and enabling me to feel the beauty of nature. Brisk wind, drying my nostrils momentarily as I inhale, filled with the aroma of leaves and loam. Soft earth underfoot, supple to my step and near that very moment before it hardens with winter. Caws of ravens and crows and falltime fowl as they play within the breeze.
