wed trees 結婚した木 (harajuku, tokyo)

Sitting in the southwest corner of Meiji Jingu, I vacuously gazed out at the shrine's grounds, letting my eyes wander as they would--and they rested upon this tree. Now, I have been coming to Meiji Jingu for quite some time now, but this was the first time I had truly seen the magnificence of this tree. Or, more accurately, a pair of trees joined by a wedding rope; a pair of trees whose boughs entwine and appear as one.
I considered this for some time, and thought: such a concept is truly representative of the marriage ideal, isn't it? Distinct individuals who grow together. Distinct and yet--somehow indistinguishable.
