sanuki. you may be asking yourself, where is sanuki? it's a smaller country town, filled with rice fields and forest, roughly 45 or so minutes away from ueno on the joban line. i decided to go wandering around there this past weekend with my camera, just seeing what sorts of things were there. on a close look, it seems to be a really quiet, beautiful town, adjacent to a lake on the west and rice paddies and farms to the east and north. walking about the edge of the rice paddies, i noticed small concrete-paved "roads" that led into the forest beyond. i decided to venture down one of them. and, to my dismay: i found that people had taken advantage of the beautiful, people-few (read: "no eyes to see what you are doing") landscape by littering. and not just littering, mind you: there were heaps of old futons, worn-out tatami mats, TVs, fridges-- you name it, it was probably discarded along the side of the road, right next to the signs that warned of heavy fines for littering and disposing of waste. a tear came to my face as i sighed; is this what rural japan has become? a graveyard for waste? i decided to take a more scenic photo instead.
