licking the fangs 牙を舐める猫 (meguro, japan)

like many place in japan, Meguro has cats. Many cats. Usually they like to hide in undergrowth or sun themselves on park benches; old people will sometimes feed them scraps of food, or buy treats for them before strolling around, just to have the opportunity to be kind to one of these animals. the Japanese indeed seem to have a unique relationship with cats--often the latter seem to be a kind of independent communal pet--nurtured by the community and yet left to fend for itself, on its own whims.
