a few weeks ago, my friend M and i went walking around Nezu-- a district roughly northwest of Ueno in tokyo. there are a surprising number of temples dotting the entire area, each with their own distinct personality; as M and i both enjoy exploring these kinds of "ancient yet new" places, we ended up crisscrossing a large section of that area and cam across a temple with this carving. i thought it was so Asianesque that i had to take a photo and share....
