enoshima view 江ノ島のビュー (kamakura, japan)

While mainly known for its rich cultural history and number of beautiful, inspiring temples and other sights, as the area is sitting on soft limestone, Kamakura is also home to a large number of caves. As you walk around the area, you can see many instances of where homeowners carved small storage spaces into the cliffs adjacent to their homes, or of caves made by Shinto priests ages ago at various temples. In fact, there are so many numerous caves and sinkholes dotting the hillsides, often obscured by brush, that officials decided to erect high fences for reasons of safety.
